240 sweet

Indiana based, 240 Sweet is my new favourite confectionery company.  Alexa and Samantha make hand crafted, artisan marshmallows made from all natural, organic ingredients in cool flavours such as salty caramel twist, caramel swirl, peanut butter and jelly, chocolate chip coconut and turtle.  I think one of the reasons why these marshmallows look so fantastic is Alexa’s artistic eye.   She was previously the Artist in Residence at Indiana State museum.  Moreover, this company is recognized as an Indiana artisan which I thought was pretty cool.  I would love to sample these marshmallows, and give them away as hostess gifts.  If you are lucky enough to live in Indiana, hopefully you’ve indulged already.

alain delorme: photography

My fiancee’s mother and step father are currently in China travelling through an ambitious itinerary.  It is their first trip to China and instead of sticking to large cities, they were open to venturing off the beaten track (for first time travellers) to Guilin, Yangshuo, Lijiang and Zhongdian.  The trip winds down with four days in Shanghai, which I am using as a segway to introduce Alain Delorme’s photographic series titled, “Totem.”  Totem captures people carrying things on carts in Shanghai.  It’s true, you can see people on the streets of Shanghai biking around with all sorts of stuff.  I think Alain has done a terrific job capturing this common street scene.

hotel anteroom

I just read about this amazing looking hotel in Japan on a couple blogs I follow, like Upon a Fold, The Brief, and Superfuture.  Hotel Anteroom is one of Kyoto’s newest boutique hotels, offering guests an affordable option in the city to park their bags and experience the feeling of staying in an art gallery.  What’s cool about this place is that Hotel Anteroom was originally a student residence that was converted into a hotel and 50 apartments.

Designed by Yamazaki Hirokazu, the rooms are stunning and cool, with their natural colour pallet and materials. The hotel is designed as a place where art and culture co-exist, providing guests a place to retreat and socialize or prepare to explore Kyoto.  It has a permanent art gallery called Gallery 9.5, a lounge, restaurant, artwork on sale, and free internet. When I make it to Japan, I am totally staying here.  Photos via Superfuture and Hotel Anteroom.

Anna Malmberg: Photography

Anna Malmberg is a Swedish fashion photographer based in Paris and I love her feminine, soft, style.  She has been honing her aesthetic since the age of 14 when her parents built her a dark room in their house in Northern Sweden. You can see a lot more of her work on Elle Sweden’s site here.

lox and savvy

Australia based stationery company, Lox and Savvy is turning out some creative and bright paper goods.  No one is doing flourescent right now except Lisa, who does it very well.  I love her choice to combine geometric shapes with bright neon colours.  Lisa, the creative energy behing Sydney, Australia based Lox and Savvy is inspired by 60s + 70s furniture and design objects and applies a dash of 80s when it comes to colour.  To hear more from Lisa’s inspirations, read her interview here.  Can’t wait to see what comes out next!
