fruktcocktail

Happy hump day.  It’s a short week for Canadians with the long weekend just behind us.  A quick blog post about a couple interior shots I am digging today.  I like the aesthetic of the fruktcocktail inspiration segment from this month’s Elle Interior Sweden.  Very bright, airy and minimalist.

boxed water

I took a mini vacation this weekend to Michigan.  It’s been ages since I last visited the Somerset Collection and decided to make a weekend out of it.  My find of the weekend had to be from grocery store, Holiday Market, in Royal Oak, Michigan (near Troy/Birmingham):  Boxed water.  That’s right. Water in a box.  Two young entrepreneurs from Michigan created the product and I love its simplicity and bold packaging.  I was walking up and down the aisles taking in everything new and creative in the Holiday Market grocery store when I was stopped in my tracks in the beverage section.  The white carton of water was calling out to me, literally (it says “hello” on the side of the box) so much so that I purchased two boxes of water- yet to be consumed.  Just like their website states, “boxed water is better!” Even the cashier had a good laugh.  She hadn’t seen the product yet and took a double take when I put both cartons on the conveyor belt to pay.

la patisserie des reves

Just like the name suggests, this “new” patisserie does look like a dream.  Located in the seventh arrondissement on Rue de Bac, La Patisserie des Reves in Paris, created by Philippe Conticini looks unbelievable.   The chef and author of book Sensations Nutella, has given every consumer touch point from the store interior, the display shelves, the website, the exterior, and last but not least the product a hearty helping of interior design.  His chosen colour palette of white, pink, orange and yellow reminds me of something right out of the Martha Stewart Weddings magazine.  I can’t tell what is more eye catching, the interiors and glass displays or the desserts themselves.   While this is not Philippe’s first Patisserie in the city, it is most eye-catching.  It seems that each bakery that opens (specifically in Paris) out does the next.  I guess you have to be pretty innovative as an entrepreneur and chef if you want to compete and stay in business in a city that is full of bakeries.   Here is a video of Philippe talking about his bakery and pastries.  I can’t wait to get to Paris to visit La Patisserie des Reves.

purple frames

Another weekend spent in reno-prep madness.  This time it was a three hour ordeal at Ikea to purchase a kitchen.  I love Ikea and I am really happy about the kitchen my boyfriend and I chose however, the standing, and waiting and checking and revising and screaming children running around and random people moving in on the computer you have been hard at work on for an hour, I would rather pass on.  Those are the things that make Ikea less than enjoyable.  However, for Scandinavian design, I am willing to make a small sacrifice.  🙂

How Ikea relates to the topic of this post is that I received yet another engagement phone call while at Ikea this weekend, this time from a close family friend announcing her engagement where she sealed the deal with a canoe.  I think this is my fifth engagement post in two months.  I guess the warm weather brings the romance out in couples.  Keeping up with tradition on this blog, to honour the couple, I have chosen some inspiring, wonderful photos from other parties that I hope will awe and inspire.

Below is a creative example of eye catching decor/table cards/gifts that was executed really well because the couple chose a bold colour story for their wedding theme.   The picture frames and messages inside were selected match the same monochromatic colour palette as the flowers, desserts and candy.  What a lovely looking event.
