Daily Candy Wedding Site

I am so excited.  One of my favourite style/food/design/travel websites expanded into the event/wedding forum!

If you consider yourself a stylish, culture loving, modern, jet setter, then Daily Candy.com  is a site you are  well acquainted with.

Now you have another reason to surf their site with the creation of their new, Daily Candy Weddings that recently launched and is fantastic.

History of Colour Wheel

I know I often speak about colour palettes and flowers, but have you ever stopped to think of where the colour palette came from?

Perhaps if you studied colour theory in school, this question may have come across your radar, but when I saw this picture on Jordan Ferney’s blog, I felt like I discovered something special, something historic and something privy to few eyes.  For more about the history on the colour wheel, I would check out the article on Colour Lovers.

However, if you want the quick and dirty explanation to start the wheels turning, the colour wheel was first linked to Isaac Newton when he was experimenting with  light  back in the late 17th century.  Essentially when a beam of sunlight was passed through a prism, it produced a sequence of colour, thus laying a foundation for identifying the colours that comprise colour theory.

If you are interested in seeing more historic photos, there are more pictures on the blog here.  I would also recommend checking out the Colour Loversblog- for the true colour enthusiast- a modern contrast.

BED: Barbie’s 50th Birthday Bash

Today’s beautiful event design will go to the team involved with creating Barbie’s 50th Birthday Bash in Malibu.

From looking at the pictures on blog, Hostess with the Mostess and other sources, I can’t begin to tell you about all the fabulous details, colours, event ideas and food that went into the Mattel sponsored Barbie 50th birthday/anniversary party bash that was held at the Malibu mansion, but I will give you a brief synopsis:

Event Planner: The magical and world renowned, Colin Cowie

Interior Designer:  Home accessory style maker, Jonathan Adler

Key Event Ideas/Take-Aways:

1. Colour Theme: Pink, White and Black- repeated throughout the entire event in areas of interior decor, accessories, accents, food and beverages.

2.  Love the dessert table- particularly the pink marshmallows, graham cracker trays and barbie chocolate to make smores.

3.  Barbie Malibu Mansion living room chairs are adorned in some pretty funky looking graphics (looks like the many faces of Barbie)

4. Lighting- Lighting as a whole, can take an event to the next level (it can also have the opposite effect if done improperly).  The Barbie event had beams light hitting everything that was pink to give a romantic pink effect to the entire scene.  The lighting particulalry  did wonders to all the fuscia elements on site.

Cake Accessories

If you tend to make a lot of cakes and cupcakes and find yourself with a mental roadblock of how to up the creativity ante, I just found a company that sells incredibly intricate cupcake wrappers and cake stand wrappers.  Move over basic polka dots and stripes, we’re talking serious design here.  The company that sells these things is a wedding site called Estilo Weddings created in 2007 by Philippines born and raised Maria Ryan.

Nest Fragrances- I like

There is a new wax candle in town called Nest

nestlead

Created by Laura Slatkin, this newbie brand to the  luxury home  fragrances category evokes a sleek, stylish exterior with its dark, clean and somewhat mysterious packaging.  Each candle is adorned with a simple label and its creative scent combination such as beeswax and whipped cream, wasabi pear and Moroccan amber.

I think the set would make a beautiful hostess gift, wedding shower gift or you could buy a set and break it up to give individual gifts.
