pinwheels

It is so interesting how you find inspirational things.  This post took a couple twists and turns to arrive at decided to talk about pinwheels.  As a kid I remember having a plastic pinwheel made of a shiny green and silver colour.  Ahhh simple entertainment for kids.  The 80s were the good old days!  While I was checking back on the latest and greatest from Amy Atlas, I read about a guest post who crafted an event in fashion brand, lily pulitzer colours, pink and green.  The person who put the kids birthday party together (from blog, kori clark designs) used pinwheels to decorate the table and had them made in the lily pulitzer aesthetic (see picture below).   Thankfully Kori included her sources which lead me to Twirlie Whirlie, a home made paper accessory company that seems to have a unique talent for creating and designing unique pinwheels among other products that you can browse/shop for on their website here.  This is a cool, crafty company.  They make their own pinwheels out of colourful (scrapbook-looking) paper.  Just the thing to add to a wedding or birthday party to make the event extra special.

la patisserie des reves

Just like the name suggests, this “new” patisserie does look like a dream.  Located in the seventh arrondissement on Rue de Bac, La Patisserie des Reves in Paris, created by Philippe Conticini looks unbelievable.   The chef and author of book Sensations Nutella, has given every consumer touch point from the store interior, the display shelves, the website, the exterior, and last but not least the product a hearty helping of interior design.  His chosen colour palette of white, pink, orange and yellow reminds me of something right out of the Martha Stewart Weddings magazine.  I can’t tell what is more eye catching, the interiors and glass displays or the desserts themselves.   While this is not Philippe’s first Patisserie in the city, it is most eye-catching.  It seems that each bakery that opens (specifically in Paris) out does the next.  I guess you have to be pretty innovative as an entrepreneur and chef if you want to compete and stay in business in a city that is full of bakeries.   Here is a video of Philippe talking about his bakery and pastries.  I can’t wait to get to Paris to visit La Patisserie des Reves.

sift dessserts HK

My friend recently had her baby shower in Hong Kong and had these fabulous looking cupcakes on the table.  I asked her where she got them from and she directed me to Sift Desserts HK.  Sift is a modern bakery with very sophisticated desserts in Hong Kong, making everything from cupcakes, to macarons, tarts, cakes and cookies.  The pictures I was able to find does not do this place justice so it’s better to check out their website.  It looks like they will have a promising future in the city that never sleeps if there taste matches up to the aesthetic.

living rooms: grey and white

I am in the midst of designing a condo.  I have the kitchen pretty much decided as well as the master bath.  What is holding me up is the open concept living space- the dining room and living room.  It’s a fairly sizeable area and is one that is outlined with an angular solarium, so there is lots of natural light coming in.

There is a very long wall along the north side of the condo and a smaller accent wall on the south side of the room.  The east side is all windows from the solarium and there is an open concept kitchen on the west side.  I like the idea of playing up greys and whites on the walls and in some of the furniture and then bringing in colour through the accessories.  I am not keen on the idea of having white furniture but nonetheless, here are some ideas that I like/have seen floating around the design blogs and magazines I read:

something to celebrate

This is going to be a year of weddings in my circle of friends.  Another good friend of mine got engaged last weekend to someone I set her up with four years ago.  I bet the 2011 season is going to be crazy packed with weddings.   Fortunately, a packed wedding season means lots of events, parties and opportunities for pictures, event ideas and blog posts.

To celebrate my best friend’s engagement to my business school classmate, I thought I would dedicate this post to them and wish them all the best in their planning, celebration and life together.

I thought these pictures from O Holy Sweet would do the trick.
