Less than one week away and I am still scrubbing glue off my bathroom shower tiles.  I can’t wait to move into the new space.  It is really coming together.  This weekend there was a lot of touch up painting going on as well as encasing our kitchen cabinets in the high gloss grey boards we purchased from Ikea.  Our counter top finally gets installed tomorrow (or so our manufacturer says).  Lastly, my wall stickers and one of the posters I ordered arrived in the mail to my office.  Can’t wait to get them both up on the walls. New photos coming soon.

home owner

Today, I became a home owner. 

It is my first time purchasing a home and I think its kind of cool that I own something with someone.

In light of my new, big purchase, I am dedicating the month of September to all things renovation and interior decor on the blog.  I will be posting pictures of the demo, reno and decor of the condo plus cost saving tips and findings in my hunting and gathering of materials.

October will be dedicated to entertaning as I am sure I will be doing a lot of that once the place is in shape to host guests!

In the mean time, I appologize for my spotty postings in August.  Preparing for home ownership is quite the task especially if you are taking on the reno project yourself (with the help of family) instead of contracting out.

You’ve seen these places in every major city. The popularity of blow dry bars started to gain traction about two years ago around the same time the global economy took a nose dive.   The  allure of a blow dry bar is two-fold.  Firstly, the concept is fairly simple. No cuts, no colour, just blow drying hair.  Secondly, it is cheaper to get your hair blow dried at a “blow dry bar” instead of a regular hair dresser (for the most part).  So when people feel the need to cut back and reduce expenses but are still looking for a bit of indulgence, an hour experience at a blow dry bar can be divine. 

One in particular caught my attention.  Drybar in Los Angeles has a great website, blog, and light, contemporary, interior design which I love.  The crew behind Drybar comes loaded with creative talents, bursting at the seams, most from different disciplines outside of hairdressing which is a great way to build a successful business strategy in my opinion. Not only did I want to write a little something on Drybar for its interior design, drybar also hosts events and parties in the salon- think birthday parties, brunches, bachelorettes.  What a fun idea.

Happy hump day.  It’s a short week for Canadians with the long weekend just behind us.  A quick blog post about a couple interior shots I am digging today.  I like the aesthetic of the fruktcocktail inspiration segment from this month’s Elle Interior Sweden.  Very bright, airy and minimalist.

Why do people shy away from colour when considering interior design? 

I love how these three photos bring colour in to the space through furniture and accessories while still maintaining white walls/a neutral backdrop.  I wonder who the artist is behind the painting in the second room shot below?  By the way, Elle Interior Sweden is a gem.  Amazing design ideas.  Thanks for bringing my attention to the site, blogger from Hei!

little nicky coffee

A new, cute, independent coffee shop opened a couple weeks ago in the Queen West area (just behind the Gap to be exact) on Peter street off of Queen.  The best thing about Little Nicky Coffee Shop is that they make homemade doughnuts on premise and the smell is to die for.  They make lemonade and iced tea as well as coffee (which I didn’t try- as a non coffee drinker).  So go give that shop some love- it’s good to support the little guys on the street.
