concrete accessories

Believe it or not, I have nothing, NOTHING, growing in my house.  With the exception of buying myself flowers every now and again, I have no living plants in my place which is kind of sad.  On the sixth floor, I look out over the tree tops, so I see green all the time, but I think it’s important to have a couple of plants to clean the indoor air.  I don’t know why that is, and I’m not proud of it, but it’s reality.  No green or living things.

In an effort to change my no-green predicament, I thought, one way to motivate myself to buy a plant is to first find a cool home for the plant.  Fortunately, I found these adorable and stylish concrete plant holders on Etsy from Obelisk, fine concrete decor.  The seller has other home accessories including concrete vases, bowls, utensil holders, and even a table lamp.  These natural, minimalist items would be a lovely addition to anyone’s space; especially mine.  Now all I need to do is find some moss!

K + E the wedding

I recently had the honour of being a part of one of my best friend’s weddings.  I enjoyed the day immensely and was so happy to share in the couple’s special day.  The affair, both ceremony and reception, took place at Andrew Richard Designs (King and Parliament) in Toronto.  The bride and groom made the event feel natural, real and lighthearted- a true reflection of the couple.

The reception decor was stunning all done up in pinks (pale/fuscia) and greywhich popped against the backdrop of the white loft room. The food was French themed, catered by Daniel et Daniel and was delicious.  In the sit down reception, we were served a trio of tomatoes (gaspacho, a tomato and goat cheese tart and a caprese salad), steak frites and then for dessert creme caramel and a molten lava chocolate cake, which was then followed by passed desserts like mini ice cream cones, cheesecake lollipops and grilled cheese. The best part is the long room accomodated rectangular tables of 22 guests which in my books is fantastic.

Toronto on a roll

While doing my rounds this month of reading through magazines, blogs and websites, I’ve noticed several new event/wedding/bakery related establishments have opened in the city.  The gods of creativity are smiling on Toronto as fresh ideas, concepts and businesses are brought to market to make the city a sweeter, more colourful place.  Let’s see, on the list I can count at least three, Petite and Sweet, Nadege 2, and Bakerbots.  Honourable mention goes to Bobbette and Belle’s great interview in this month’s House and Home magazine.    Is it just me noticing this or do I dare say, Toronto, I’m impressed?!

Natural Accessories

While I absolutely love a splash of colour when it comes to home accessories, there is also something to be said about having a base of natural accessories in whites, metals, corks, woods and stone.  To truly entertain, a mix of natural or neutral pieces mixed with wild, vibrant and wondering items is best.

Natural accessories do a great job at highlighting food and blending/layering well on a shelf for display.  Here is a small selection of  contemporary natural home accessory items from Majamoo (Finland), Iittala (Findland), Hakusan Porcelain (Japan), George Jensen, and Normann Copenhagen (Denmark) that would surely bring a smile to a host/guest’s face.
